It has been said of listening that:- it is "the highest form of hospitality", of the sort that does not set out
"to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place, hospitality is not a subtle invitation to adopt the lifestyle of the host, but the gift of a chance for the guest to find their own".

Listening In The Third Dimension

The second half day in-house workshop

Listening is a skill that relatively few people deliberately try to develop - yet we all spend more time listening that we do speaking, reading or writing.

Listening is very different from hearing and the Professional Listener's first half-day workshop has the objective of teaching the essential skills to be an effective listener.  This second listening workshop focuses on the third dimension and is important for people who work with others face-to-face either on a one-to-one basis or in groups

Some people consciously or subconsciously develop tactics aimed at deceiving the listener and masking what they really feel or mean.  This is often achieved by using words, phrases or language patterns that appear to give a clear (but not necessarily truthful) message.  At times like this it's important that the effective listener has developed the skills to determine if what the speaker is saying is accurate and if they're telling the truth.

To do this the listener must bring another dimension into listening and this is achieved by correctly reading and using body language and some NLP skills to determine the real meaning of the speaker's message.

This second workshop is for people who already consider they are effective listeners but need to understand and effectively use the third dimension of listening.

Outline of the workshop:

Review of essential listening skills

  • The real difference between listening over a telephone and in face-to-face situations.
  • What do we know about body language? (Exercise)
  • Overview of the NLP Meta model.
  • Listening in the third dimension. (Exercise)
  • Putting it all together.

This half-day workshop can only be run in-house for four or  a maximum of six delegates.
